Last Updated: 9 months ago

Students of the Community Service Program (KKN) of the Faculty of Islamic Religion and Teacher Education (FAIPG) of Djuanda University (UNIDA) Group 7 of TanjungSari Village held a seminar on Waste Management and Aromatherapy Candles from Used Cooking Oil with the theme of Turning Waste into Use Value for a Cleaner and Healthier Environment (10/08/2025)

Waste, including used cooking oil, is often disposed of carelessly, contaminating water and soil, and posing health risks. Through the "Creative Waste Management Based on Aromatherapy Candle Innovation from Used Cooking Oil" initiative, themed "Turning Waste into Useful Value for a Cleaner and Healthier Environment," waste can be processed into products with economic value while reducing pollution. This innovation raises public awareness about wise waste management for environmental sustainability.

The purpose of this activity is to educate about the impact of used cooking oil on the environment and health, train people to make aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil, reduce pollution through waste utilization and increase awareness and opportunities for environmentally friendly creative businesses.

In her presentation, Lisa Marisa spoke about waste that can pollute water, land and air.

"Waste is the residue of human activities or natural processes that can be divided into three types: organic, inorganic, and B3. If not managed properly, waste can pollute water, soil, and air, produce unpleasant odors, trigger disease, and degrade environmental quality. The solution is to apply the 3R principle: Reduce (reducing single-use waste), Reuse (reusing items that are still suitable), and Recycle (processing waste into new products). With proper management, the environment will be cleaner, healthier, and more comfortable," he said.

This activity is expected to provide participants with an understanding of the dangers of improperly disposing of used cooking oil and the importance of wise waste management. Participants are also expected to develop skills in making aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil, enabling them to utilize household waste into useful and marketable products. These skills are expected to foster creative recycling-based business opportunities in the community. Furthermore, this activity is expected to foster creative waste management habits, leading to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment.
