The Faculty of Islamic Studies and Teacher Education (FAIPG), Universitas Djuanda, once again demonstrated its strong commitment to internationalization and the enhancement of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through active participation in the academic event entitled “ASEAN Issue Seminar and Academic Workshop”, held at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, on January 28, 2026. This activity served as a regional academic forum that brought together academics, researchers, and higher education leaders from various countries across the ASEAN region.
The seminar and academic workshop were attended by representatives from 13 universities participating onsite, creating a dynamic space for scholarly dialogue on strategic issues in higher education within ASEAN. These discussions covered global challenges, quality improvement in education, learning innovation, and the strengthening of inter-university collaboration. The presence of various institutions in a single forum emphasized the importance of regional synergy in responding to the rapidly evolving dynamics of higher education.
On this occasion, FAIPG Universitas Djuanda delegated five lecturers from different study programs as a form of institutional support for academic capacity development and the expansion of international networks. The participation of FAIPG lecturers was not merely representative but reflected active engagement in academic discussions, the exchange of ideas, and the strengthening of cross-border academic collaboration.
One of the FAIPG representatives, Dr. Helmia Tasti Adri, M.Pd.Si, a lecturer in the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Program, shared her profound impressions of the academic event. She stated that the ASEAN Issue Seminar and Academic Workshop provided a comprehensive academic experience by integrating scholarly discussions, academic workshops, and direct interaction with academics from various ASEAN countries. According to her, this activity was highly relevant in broadening academic insight, improving the quality of teaching, and opening opportunities for international research and publication collaborations. Furthermore, Dr. Helmia emphasized that the forum offered new perspectives on higher education management and the strengthening of lecturers’ capacities at the international level. The academic interactions established throughout the event were considered valuable assets for developing sustainable cooperation, including collaborative research, lecturer and student exchanges, and other joint academic activities.
At the same event, the President of the ASEAN Academic Association (ASEANACA), Prof. Dr. Tulus Suryanto, MM, stated in his remarks that ASEANACA serves as a strategic platform for lecturers to expand their academic performance to the international level. He emphasized that through forums such as this, lecturers are not only encouraged to engage in cross-national academic activities but are also facilitated in building networks, increasing research productivity, and making meaningful contributions to the development of higher education in the ASEAN region and globally.
In addition to the seminar and academic workshop, the series of activities was complemented by a visiting lecturer program, the signing of inter-university cooperation agreements, and a campus tour at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). The visiting lecturer program provided opportunities for lecturers to share academic expertise and experiences directly, while the signing of cooperation agreements marked a concrete step toward strengthening sustainable international partnerships. The campus tour offered a comprehensive overview of UiTM’s facilities, governance, and academic culture as one of Malaysia’s leading universities.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FAIPG Universitas Djuanda, Dr. Zahra Khusnul Lathifah, M.Pd.I, stated that FAIPG consistently supports all study programs in continuing to grow and actively contribute to the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education at both national and international levels. Participation in international academic forums such as this is viewed as part of the faculty’s strategic efforts to enhance human resource quality, expand global networks, and strengthen institutional reputation.
Through its participation in the ASEAN Issue Seminar and Academic Workshop, FAIPG Universitas Djuanda hopes to further strengthen international academic networks, develop strategic collaborations among higher education institutions in the ASEAN region, and encourage the academic community to play a more active role in addressing the challenges of higher education in the global era.
