Last Updated: 8 months ago

Students of the Community Service Program (KKN) of the Faculty of Islamic Religion and Teacher Education (FAIPG) of Djuanda University (UNIDA) Group 4 of Palasari Village held a Guidance and Counseling workshop for Teachers of Palasari 01 Elementary School with the theme The Role of Teachers in Implementing Guidance and Counseling for the Development of Students (12/08/2025)

The role of teachers as educators extends beyond classroom instruction to include guidance and counseling for students' personal and academic development. At SDN Palasari 01, many students require support in addressing the emotional, social, and academic challenges they face. Guidance and counseling play a crucial role in helping students develop optimally. Therefore, this workshop was held to introduce and strengthen teachers' understanding of the importance of their role in providing effective guidance and counseling to students.

The purpose of this activity is to increase the understanding of teachers at SDN Palasari 01 regarding the importance of their role in guidance and counseling for students, to equip teachers with knowledge and skills in implementing guidance and counseling that is appropriate to the developmental needs of students, to encourage the creation of a school environment that supports the emotional, social, and academic development of students and to raise awareness of teachers to become reliable companions in supporting the growth and development process of students.

Syabila Melania as the Head of the KKN Group, presented this workshop activity as one of the work programs in her celebration

"This workshop is part of our ongoing program, aiming to provide a space for discussion and knowledge sharing regarding the role of teachers in guidance and counseling, particularly in supporting students' emotional development. I believe that a teacher's role is not only as an instructor, but also as a companion who understands the conditions and development of their students. Hopefully, through this workshop, we can all gain new insights and inspiration, and the material presented will also be useful for teachers in their daily practices at school," he said.

Cucu Julaeha, S.Pd., Principal of SDN Palasari 01, said in his speech that there is no special teacher for Guidance and Counseling in elementary schools, unlike in middle and high schools.

"There's no dedicated guidance and counseling teacher in elementary schools, unlike in middle and high schools. In elementary schools, the homeroom teacher is the one who guides and assists children with special needs. Elementary school teachers must be multi-talented, serving as both instructors and mentors for their students. Furthermore, teachers are not just instructors; they must also be effective mentors and guides for their students," he said.

Hanrezi Dhania Hasnin, S.Pd., S.Psi., M.Si., in his presentation, conveyed that the role of teachers in implementing Guidance and Counseling (BK) is very important, especially in elementary schools that do not yet have a dedicated BK teacher.

"The role of teachers in implementing Guidance and Counseling (BK) is crucial, especially in elementary schools that do not yet have dedicated BK teachers. Guidance and counseling in elementary schools is a service that helps students develop their potential optimally through planned and ongoing activities. This includes self-development in academic, social-emotional, and physical aspects. This BK service is highly urgent due to developmental issues that encompass physical, cognitive, personal, and social aspects, as well as the wide range of individual student diversity. Therefore, this service is not only intended for students experiencing learning difficulties or problematic behavior, but also for students with high intelligence and abilities," he said.

The expected outcome of this workshop is to improve the competency of SDN Palasari 01 teachers in understanding and implementing the role of guidance and counseling for students. Thus, teachers are expected to be able to apply effective guidance techniques, create a school environment that supports students' emotional, social, and academic development, and build better relationships between teachers and students. Expected outcomes also include improving students' psychological well-being, where they can better overcome various personal and academic challenges, and achieve optimal development in both academic and social aspects
